Doc Watson remains in critical condition following colon surgery

Grammy-winning folk musician Doc Watson remains in critical condition after undergoing colon surgery last week at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.
Folklore Productions, the company that represents Watson, posted the update on Tuesday: "Doc’s condition has somewhat deteriorated this morning. He remains in critical condition."

Watson's family was summoned to his bedside Sunday after he took a turn for the worse, but pulled through and was back to his current condition by the day's end, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.
He became ill and fell down at his home in Deep Gap last week, according to the New York Times. He was taken to the hospital in the nearby town of Boone, but was sent to Winston-Salem after doctors determined he needed surgery to remove a blockage in his colon.
He underwent the surgery Thursday, and has remained in the intensive care unit since.
Jumping onto the music scene in the early 1960s, Watson known as a master of the flatpicking style of guitar playing. He has won seven Grammy awards, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame in 2010, according to CNN.
Watson was blinded from an eye infection as a baby. He toured with his son, Merle, before Merle's death in a farming accident in 1985, and has played at an annual festival called MerleFest in his son's honor, CNN reported.
