‘The real George Zimmerman’ website collecting donations

George Zimmerman, the man at the center of the Trayvon Martin shooting, has established a website to collect donations for lost income and legal defense, Reuters reported.

The Florida man who shot and killed the unarmed 17-year-old Martin on Feb. 26 is indeed behind www.therealgeorgezimmerman.com, his lawyer said.

“He is operating this on his own,” Zimmerman's lawyer, Craig Sonner, told Reuters. “I can confirm this is his site.”

Comments posted on the site are Zimmerman’s first since the shooting.

Zimmerman’s simple website contains links to The Facts, My Race, a photo album, a contacts page and a PayPal tab.

“I was involved in a life altering event which led me to become the subject of intense media coverage,” the site reads. “As a result of the incident and subsequent media coverage, I have been forced to leave my home, my school, my employer, my family and ultimately, my entire life. This website’s sole purpose is to ensure my supporters they are receiving my full attention without any intermediaries.”

In “The Facts,” Zimmerman thanks his family and friends for supporting him, but says he can’t discuss details of the night in question.

There is nothing written under “My Race,” but two “Justice for Zimmerman” photos in the album.

One of Zimmerman’s friends told CNN that just because he’s collecting legal defense funds, he’s not preparing to face charges.

“That has nothing to do with it,” Frank Taaffe said on Headline News.

The case continues to spark protests more than a month later.

Zimmerman admitted to police he shot and killed Martin, but there were no charges in the case because the Neighborhood Watch volunteer claimed self-defense.

Martin was unarmed as he returned home from buying Skittles and Arizona iced tea from a local convenience store.

“Once again, I thank you for your patience and I assure you, the facts will come to light,” Zimmerman writes on his website.
