Mexico: 6.3 earthquake in Guerrero state is felt in Mexico City

Just two weeks after a powerful earthquake struck southern Mexico, another tremblor, this time measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale, has again rattled Guerrero state, according to CNN.

Citing the US Geological Survey, the news broadcaster said the epicenter was about 17 miles from the city of Ometepec and that the movement occurred at a depth of 7.6 miles. There were no immediate reports of damage, death or injury.

The quake was felt as far away as Mexico City, hundreds of miles away, but there were no reports of damage there, according to a Twitter post by Mayor Marcelo Ebrard.

According to The Associated Press, today’s quake was an apparent aftershock from the March 20 quake, which killed at least two people.

In 1985, an earthquake of 8.1 on the Richter scale left an estimated 10,000 people dead in Mexico City.
