Norway avalanche kills 4 tourists
Police and military helicopters have been sent to Mt Sorbmegaisa near Tromsoe on Norway’s Arctic coast on Monday, with rescue workers also using dogs in their search.
LONDON, United Kingdom – Four foreign tourists have died after being buried in a massive avalanche in northern Norway, police say.
Six people in total were swept away when the avalanche struck on Mt Sorbmegaisa near Tromsoe on Norway’s Arctic coast on Monday, the Associated Press reports.
One was a French citizen and the other five were Swiss nationals. One survivor was dug out alive and brought to the hospital while another remained missing in the snowfall.
The six were part of a group of 12 people skiing in the area, the BBC reports.

Police and military helicopters have been sent to the site, with rescue workers also using dogs in their search. F-16 fighter jets have been dispatched to observe the scene, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Avalanches are relatively common in Norway at this time of year, as the first rays of sun and warmer spring temperatures begin to dislodge blocks of snow and ice, the Agence France Presse reports.
