China’s Broad Sustainable Building completes a 30-story hotel in just 15 days (VIDEO)

They’ve outdone themselves in Hunan province.

The Los Angeles Times reports that a 30-story hotel was erected in the capitial, Changsha, in just 15 days of almost round-the-clock construction.

Though the foundations were laid and most of the materials were assembled in advance, this is still quite a feat. "Incredible speed also means incredible risk," The Times quoted Beijing architect Zhang Li as saying. "But only time will tell how serious the risk is."

Time-elapse video of the project, which has since been viewed nearly 5 million times, shows tower as it went up in December in what must be some kind of record:

"I've never seen a project go up this fast," The Times quoted Ryan Smith, an expert on prefabricated architecture at the University of Utah, as saying. Smith said prefabrication usually reduced construction time by as much as a half. But this project had shorn two thirds off its building time.

NPR reported in November that the same company posted video of 15-story The Ark Hotel, which the company said was completed in just two work days. The website HotelChatter said at the time that total construction hours over all in fact amounted to six days, still pretty fast.
