The Muslim Brotherhood on Twitter

For decades, Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak justified his autocratic rule by saying that the only alternative was Islamic rule.

That scared many observers, including the United States.

Now that Mubarak has been overthrown, that alternative may be materializing by way of elections.

The Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), which is closely associated with the Muslim Brotherhood, has been the dominant force in Egypt’s ongoing parliamentary elections.

And to better understand the message being put out these days by the Muslim Brotherhood, we turn to Sondos Asem.

She’s a 24-year-old graduate of the American University of Cairo who helps run the Brotherhood’s English-language Twitter feed.
