South Korea buildings to resemble 9/11 exploding towers

GlobalPost

When you hear "9/11," you don't necessarily think, "luxury residence." But at least one design firm begs to differ.

The Dutch firm MVRDV has released a preview of a planned luxury residence in Seoul that looks uncannily like the Twin Towers right after they'd been hit on Sept. 11, 2001.

The resemblance is clear. What's less clear is MVDRV's intentions.

Here's a screengrab from the Weekly Standard:

The "cloud" design feature around the 27th floor is apparently used to connect the buildings.

(Hat tip to Drudge.)

So, what was MVRDV thinking?

The firm has already published an apology in English to its official website, saying they didn't see the resemblance in the planning process.

It was not our intention to create an image resembling the attacks nor did we see the resemblance during the design process.

But, as the Weekly Standard points out, they did previously admit to considering the resemblance during the design process in a Dutch publication.

Jan Knikker of MVDRV:

I have to admit that we also thought of the 9/11 attacks.

Curious.
