Herman Cain's Rick Perry moment? Ask Sarah Palin (VIDEO)

GlobalPost

Perhaps Sarah Palin should remind Herman Cain that Africa is a continent, not a country.

The 2012 Republican presidential candidate seemed completely thrown during an interview when asked his views on Libya and Barack Obama's handling of the uprising that ousted Muammar al-Gaddafi.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel describes a video taken during the meeting with its editorial board as "actually painful to watch."

The Chicago Tribune describes it as Cain's "Rick Perry moment."

Politico simply says "oops."

Cain, the Journal Sentinel opines, appears out of his depth in all of its video interviews, "but never more so than when he is asked whether or not he agrees with President Obama's handling of the conflict in Libya."

The new outlet doesn't provide the text of the interview, preferring viewers to watch the video make up their own minds about Cain's grasp of foreign policy and, well, current affairs.

Politico, however, helpfully transcribes his answer to a question on whether he agreed or disagreed with Obama’s approach to handling Libya:

The answer, in its full form, including one point (in bold) in which Cain decides to start his answer over because he’s on the wrong track:

“OK, Libya. President Obama supported the uprising, correct? President Obama called for the removal of Gaddafi. Just want to make sure we’re talking about the same thing before I say, ‘yes I agree,’ or ‘no I didn’t agree.’ I do not agree with the way he handled it for the following reason – nope, that’s a different one. I gotta go back to, see … Got all this stuff twirling around in my head. Specifically, what are you asking me, did I agree or not disagree with Obama on?”

Previously, Palin may have held the title of most geostrategically challenged Republican candidate, after a Fox News correspondent revealed in 2008 that the one-time Vice Presidential contender "didn't understand that Africa was a continent, rather than a series, a country just in itself."

Perry, meanwhile, has gone from on-air gaff to on-air gaff.
