Anil Ambani India’s biggest loser in new Forbes list

GlobalPost

Anil Ambani continued his bid for the post of "world's angriest billionaire" as his brother Mukesh again topped the Forbes list as the world's richest Indian, while Anil earned the dubious honor of losing the most money in a year that saw the collective net worth of the 100 richest Indians drop 20 percent.

According to the Press Trust of India, Mukesh Ambani, who heads the Reliance Industries Group, has a net worth of $22.6 billion as per the Forbes India annual rich list, which kept him at number one despite a $4.4 billion drop in his fortune.

Steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal came in second with $19.2 billion and Wipro chairman Azim Premji came third with $13 billion, according to the list published on Thursday the magazine.

Everybody took a bath as inflation, corruption scandals and falling stock and currency prices diminished their wealth, PTI said.

The list comprises 57 billionaires, a dozen less than the last year.

But Anil Ambani, who became the head of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) when the Reliance empire was split between him and his older brother, Mukesh, was the biggest loser in dollar terms, according to the magazine.  He dropped a cool $7.4 billion, leaving him with a net worth of $5.9 billion, PTI said.
