Tim Stroh was fishing with his family in the St. Lucie County Canal when he reeled in a 12 foot, 800 pound alligator.

"I had never seen a Gator that size," he told WPTV in Miami. "I had adrenaline pumping through me, and I was just like, 'Oh my god!'"

According to the Daily Mail, Stroh, 19, is 6 ft 3 in and weights 160 pounds, but he hung in there and got the alligator out of the water and into his boat. According to his father, he was only armed with his "puny bass rod."

"I thought it was a 9 footer" Stroh told TCPalm.com. "Then I saw how big it was. I was more afraid we would lose it than I was of the gator."

Stroh had an alligator hunting permit, reports NBC Miami. Stroh then hit him with a bang stick- a.45 caliber rifle round mounted onto a stick. It stunned the animal.

Stroh's dad, a taxidermist says he's seen his share of large animals- but this is the largest he's seen since 1989. He plans on mounting the animal's head and tanning the hide for his son.

According to the Daily Mail, Stroh's mother plans on making a lamp from the back leg, and they all plan on eating 250 pounds of alligator meat- which sits in freezers in their home.

However, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation, the catch wasn't even the biggest in the state, 27 year-old Connie Hancock, caught 13 ft gator in central Florida this year and the state record is larger than that- the record is a 1000 pound 14 foot alligator.
