IHOP shooting: Multiple injured in Carson City, Nevada

A gunman opened fire Tuesday morning inside an International House of Pancakes (IHOP) restaurant in Carson City, Nevada, reportedly killing at least one and wounding eight.

Lt. Rob Van Diest of the Reno Police Department told the Reno-Gazette Journal that one person has died and eight have been taken to the hospital.

It reported in its live blog of the event that the shooter has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, however, other local media outlets have reported that the gunman is still alive. KOLO-TV reports that the gunman is still breathing.

Police said the shooting took place at 9 A.M., BBC reports. Initial details are sketchy, but KOLO-TV reported the shooting took place on the 3800 block of Carson Street.

The gunman reportedly walked up to the restaurant chain, shot a man outside on a motorcycle and then walked into the IHOP and opened fire on the diners.

Nearby businesses are on lockdown, CNN reports.

Carson City has a population of 55,000 and is in western Nevada.
