How Syria’s State Media Report the Uprising

Syrian protesters have continued to risk bullets, beatings and detentions to protest against the government of President Bashar Al Assad. The government says it is fighting armed gangs who terrorize average citizens, and that the country is the target of an American and Israeli imperialist plot. The government has tried to sell its position both at home, to its allies, and to China and Russia. Ben Gilbert reports that as the government’s crackdown grows bloodier, the story is becoming harder to believe.
