Mormonism takes center stage in American politics

Misconceptions surrounding Mormonism still persist in American culture. Some 22 percent of the nation still says they would never vote for a Mormon for President, according to a Gallup poll. But attitudes toward Mormonism may be changing drastically, with two Mormons running for President and one hit musical on broadway calling itself “The Book of Mormon.” Mark Silk, director of the Leonard E. Greenberg Center for the Study of Religion in Public Life at Trinity College, and Helen Whitney, producer of the PBS documentary, “Mormons,” discuss.
