Clashes broke out at funerals in Syria's Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp Monday, leaving at least 14 people dead, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Camp residents clashed with a Syrian-backed Palestinian group, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, General Command, at the camp near Damascus.

Mourners from the camp accused the faction of sacrificing Palestinian lives by encouraging people to protest at the Israel-Syria border on Sunday, the New York Times reports.

Demonstrations at the border between Syria and the Israeli-held Golan Heights turned deadly Sunday and dozens were killed by Israeli troops. Sunday was the 44th anniversary of Israel's capture of the Golan Heights from Syria during the 1967 Six Day war.

Refugee camp residents angry with the faction attacked the group's headquarters and burned two cars Monday. The faction's gunmen then responded by opening fire on the mourners and killing 14 to 20 of them.

Israel and the United States have suggested the government in Damascus is using the Palestinians to divert international attention from Syria's internal uprising and bloody crackdown. There is suspicion that Syria either organized Sunday's border clash or at least did not thing to prevent it.

The Israeli Defense Forces continued to amass troops at the Syria border in anticipation of future protests, Haaretz reports.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, General Command, has been at odds with mainstream Palestinian groups for decades, the New York Times reports. The United States considers it a terrorist organization.
