Russia wants NATO to stop heroin influx at its source, Afghanistan

Russia says it is suffering from a “tsunami” of heroin flooding the country, and all of it is coming from the poppy fields of Afghanistan. Addicts and counter-narcotics officers in Russia want NATO to do more to stop the influx of the drug.

The BBC’s Rupert Wingfield Hughes reported this story in Russia and found that addicts and officers are shocked at the amount of heroin coming into their country. They think that NATO should do more to stop the transport of of the drug at its source in Afghanistan. But eradicating Afghanistan’s opium problem is going to take a lot more than just seizing crops according to former DEA Administrator Peter Bensinger.
