European divisions on Russia and Georgia

The EU's 27 foreign ministers today agreed in principal to send peacekeeping monitors to Georgia. The French Foreign Minister said Europe is ready to act to stabilize the region. After the conference, Britain's Foreign Secretary said the use of force can no longer be seen as a viable means of ending conflicts. But Russian tanks continued maneuvers in Georgia and divisions within Europe began to emerge shortly after the conference. A number of Baltic states held their own conference today in the Georgian capitol and criticized their European colleagues for not strongly condemning Russian aggression. Poland's President also spoke forcefully and said the EU's eastern countries are worried about facing Russian aggression one day.
