This analyst says we should do more to support democratic allies. He argues that the West should've anticipated Russia's military intervention in Georgia and headed it off. He says Russia has had Georgia in its sights since its democratic revolution in 2003. Others are equally as blunt in their criticism of the West's response. This analyst says it's a blow to many things but most of all to the Bush foreign policy which promised security to Georgia, and that's something that has other fledgling democracies in the former Soviet Union feeling uneasy. This analyst says it's not too hard to imagine a similar situation to Georgia occurring in Ukraine. Banners on Ukrainian news sites today were declaring that Ukraine would be Russia's next target. This analyst says while that may be mainly hype, he was still caught off guard by Russia's actions in Georgia.
