One opposition leader says that with the violence and intimidation campaign still ongoing, signs are that Mugabe is not ready for negotiation talks. MP says he can't imagine any alternatives to discussions between the two sides, but the mood is very negative towards Mugabe and Nigerians and Boatswains have in particular been quite outspoken towards Mugabe. (Apparently Mugabe stormed out of the meeting?) Absolutely. Our colleagues have seen him looking furious and he's not the kind of person who's used to be challenging. He believes he's a liberation fighter who always focuses on action. (This anger from the delegate countries seems to have taken Mugabe by surprise.) Yes, and Mugabe was even welcomed as a head of state at first, which I think is partly a reflection of the Egyptian government which tries to claim itself as democratic as well. (Is there a sense among the delegates that they feel the world is watching and they have to do something?) I think that's definitely right, and the UN has been calling for African countries to put pressure on Mugabe. but I think the leaders are also feeling anger about the situation in Zimbabwe, and other issues were supposed to be discussed at this meeting.
