Chinese outrage over shoddy construction

Chinese officials have been on the ropes lately from angry parents who blame government corruption for some of their suffering in the wake of the earthquake. One official so embarrassed over how many schools have collapsed laid fault not directly with him but on loopholes that allow corruption. He cited one example of a town where most of the buildings were destroyed except one building which was built with private charity funds. The middle school right next to it collapsed. The government is saying it's trying to find answers on how this could've happened. One government official said if the damage is really caused due to lack of quality, severe measures will be takensuch as heavy fines, revoking business licenses and even sending responsible parties to jail. He says his inspectors are now in the field. He also says all materials in reconstruction will have to meet standards. He says some penalties have already been levied at responsible parties.
