You may think you know what it's like to be a Marine Corps recruit, if you've seen films like "Jarhead" or "Full Metal Jacket." Think again - movies are entertainment. Boot camp is not. It's 13 weeks of grueling work. It's also an experience few teachers and guidance counselors can relate to. That is, unless they've been a Marine...or attended one of the Educator Workshops the Marine Corps runs for so-alled "influencers." That's the military's term for people most likely to "influence" a young person to join the Armed Services. The World's Katy Clark attended a recent workshop at Parris Island, South Carolina.
