Myanmar (Burma) to lift restrictions on aid

Doctors Without Borders official: for the time being we are hopeful, we hope it will materialize through a statement by their General. JH says right now it’s still a waiting game: it was not spelled out if aid workers can move freely in the Delta, which is critical. I don’t think this will work quickly, the details have to be hammered out. But the change in tone is important. (Do you think speaking in public, the General is strategizing or stalling?) It’s easy to believe that of this man and the UN should know this. (In Bangkok do you know of aid workers who are sitting tight and waiting to move in?) Oh yes, and their reaction was that this is great news but they’re wary. There are some awful stories that these aid officials have told as well. The experts simply can’t get into the Delta right now and the local officials just don’t have the expertise.
