Jamming for Obama

Reggae music is often quite politically loaded, but Calypso was the first genre from the island known for its political qualities. Now one famous initial Calypso artist is back with a new song devoted to Barack Obama. Stop the war, stop the genocide in Darfur, get health care to the poor. That artist is a naturalized American, but many locals in Jamaica are also paying close attention to the American presidential race and to Barack especially. This Jamaican man is pretty enthused about Jamaica. This BBC reporter says the intense interest in Jamaica is due to a close relationship between the US and Jamaica. Just because a couple of Jamaican songs are being written for Barack doesn't mean everyone there supports him. This man is worried says it could be the best or worst thing for black people. This popular reggae singer has a single devoted to Barack as well.
