This political scientist says the discussions of the role or race have increasingly begun to happen internationally, in Western Europe as well because the populations of color in those countries have become more politically active. He says in France for example there's a new consciousness of people identifying themselves with communities rather than the Left or the Right, but he also says the internationalization of political consulting has also played a factor in these developments. One place where issues of race is becoming more politically loaded is Western Europe, mainly because of immigration. He says the issue of race in Europe is still nothing like it is in America. Similarly, Americans living in Europe are surprised at the lack of racial issues in politics.
