Women and poverty

(Is this $1 billion dollars real?) Yes, and one of the things that will come out of this meeting is the creation of an oversight group that will monitor the spending of this money. (Where will the money go?) It will go around the world and into programs that will empower women through education and training and you made the point about women bearing the brunt of poverty, but they’re also a major part of the solution. So we’re looking at who can actually make a difference and go beyond the rhetoric. (On a personal level where do you go to relate to a poor women in Botswana for example?) Well I travel there and meet with them. The women get more radical as they get older. When I go to these countries, it’s a combination of the challenges the women face and their intelligence. It’s a privilege to be able to participate in something like this and I think it can be the start of a call to action.
