One question about Serbia's relationship with the EU is whether Serbia's entrance to the EU depends on Kosovo. This EU official says there's no connection. Yet in light of yesterday's violence in Belgrade, another EU official suggested otherwise. Serbian leaders today pledged to protect foreign embassies and arrest yesterday's attackers, but this Serbia official made it clear that the stand off with the EU will go on and that Serbia will never recognize Kosovo. This analyst says if Serbia does not restart negotiation talks, they risk additional years of isolation. Those talks include granting Serbs visas to travel in Europe. That analyst says Serbia lost Kosovo a decade ago upon the NATO bombing. Another analyst says Serbian officials have missed that fact and have now lost chances. And so Serbian politicians seem intent on clinging to Kosovo. Still Serbia points out it's not alone on the Kosovo issue, including Russia.
