Spain becomes first European country to count femicides

As of January this year, Spain is the first European country to keep official statistics of femicides — a hate crime defined as the intentional murder of a woman because of her gender. Each case will be reviewed by a special committee with the idea of shedding light on this form of gender-based violence. But as the World’s Lucía Benavides reports, some activists say simply counting femicides isn’t enough to combat the issue.
