Kyiv symphony fights on war’s ‘cultural front’

The Kyiv Symphony Orchestra’s “Voice of Ukraine” toured across Poland and Germany last month. The goal of the tour was to highlight Ukrainian composers from the 18th century through today, including original versions of compositions from before Soviet censors changed them. The male musicians had to be given special permission by the Ministry of Defense to leave Ukraine to perform. Emily Johnson reports that it’s part of the Ukrainian government effort to motivate the world to protect their unique cultural heritage.
