COP28 President Sultan al-Jaber’s statement, that there’s “no science” behind the calls to phase out fossil fuels to reach climate targets, took the Dubai summit attendees by surprise. Before his comments were made, the chief executive of the United Arab Emirates’ state oil company was already an unpopular choice to head the climate summit.
