Britain expands its definition of extremism

The British government has published a new definition of extremism aimed at curbing a surge in hate crimes against both Jews and Muslims since the start of the Israel-Hamas war. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said earlier this month that Islamist and far-right extremists were seeking to undermine Britain’s democracy. But Muslim groups say they fear they will be unfairly targeted under the new rules while some Conservative lawmakers worry the measures may inhibit free speech. The World’s Europe correspondent Orla Barry reports.
