For decades, East Baton Rouge Parish school district was under a federal desegregation order. The school district continues to struggle with diversity in its schools. Tandie Nkosi is a senior at the Centre of Science and Technology in the South African township of Khayelitsha. Tandie just went to the prom and is anxiously awaiting the results of her college applications. Her junior classmate, Sivenathi Juqu recently traveled to the US as part of a prestigious leadership program. His mother passed away in June and he now lives with his older brother, while managing most of the family's responsibilities.
