Public Radio International

Director of Major Gifts
Founded in 1983 as an independent, not-for-profit corporation, Minneapolis-based Public Radio International® has distinguished itself by producing, acquiring and distributing innovative content that enables U.S. audiences to "hear a different voice," bringing new insights and global perspectives to the public airwaves. Today we are a leading producer and marketer of public radio programs and Web-based services.

PRI seeks a high-energy Director of Major Gifts to help build and manage a successful national major gifts program that targets individual donors and to lead our individual giving team, interact extensively with prospects and donors, and manage the overall strategies of the individual major gifts program. This is a stellar opportunity for a seasoned development professional to join an inspired, energized, nationally respected organization.

If you are a creative fundraising professional who enjoys rolling up your sleeves, this is an opportunity to build a first-rate program, work with a motivated team and help advance our mission of attracting a wider, more diverse audience to public radio.

Specifics:
  • Work closely with our Sr. VP of Development to ensure that strong prospect management and national strategies are in place to raise significant gifts, ranging from annual gifts for operations to capital and planned gifts, and oversee the execution of those strategies.
  • Personally manage a portfolio of 100 or more major donors and prospects capable of making outright gifts of $10K or more.
  • Collaborate with other PRI leadership, board members, major donors and outside consultants to coordinate effective prospect visits, events, programs, committees and supporting materials.
  • Assign portfolios to our Individual Giving team and manage all aspects of identifying, cultivating and soliciting leadership and major gifts.
  • Help plan outreach activities and provide strategies, briefing materials and proposals for special projects.
  • Travel and attend events outside the workday schedule, an essential.
Qualifications:
  • Seven to 10 years' experience successfully developing and leading a major gifts effort in a university, arts or public broadcasting setting.
  • Undergraduate degree.
  • Substantial fundraising experience and campaign knowledge.
  • Demonstrated success in high-level annual giving and individual major donor development.
  • Comfort with one-on-one prospect engagement, cultivation and solicitation.
  • Effective in managing relationships on a national scale and working with board members and other high level volunteers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and team leadership skills.
  • Ability to travel.
Other helpful qualifications include knowledge of donor database software (RE7) and experience with prospect research and planning cultivation events, as well as marketing experience. Must enjoy the challenge and process of building a program.

Come help us advance our mission of attracting a wider, more diverse audience to public radio here at the start of our third decade. You'll enjoy a diverse and uniquely rewarding culture in addition to a competitive salary and benefits package, including health, dental and life insurance, the option to participate in a 403(b) retirement savings plan and a transportation subsidy.
