Public Radio International (PRI) is an independent non-profit multi-media organization that creates and distributes news and cultural content that builds awareness and understanding of the world's peoples, condintions, issues and events. Since our founding in 1983, Americans have identified PRI as the source of content that helps them navigate our increasingly diverse yet interconnected world. On almost 900 radio stations across the U.S. and on digital platforms that reach millions around the globe, PRI continues to innovate in bringing new voices, global journalism and cultural perspectives to the American public. Through partnerships with trusted media leaders like the BBC, the CBC, the New York Times and others, PRI develops solutions to address the critical but unmet needs of today’s media consumers. PRI helps people understand their place in the world and make informed decisions every day by enabling them to "hear a different voice™."

Where to Find Us

You can find PRI audio and digital content on the radio, on the web and on your mobile devices. PRI shows are heard on almost 900 public radio affiliate stations and on Sirius XM Satellite radio by 8.7 million people (Arbitron, Fall 2012). On digital platforms, millions read PRI articles, listen to PRI audio and interact with us on numerous websites, streams, in iTunes, on our iPhone and Android apps and on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. PRI content can also be found in apps like Flipboard. We are constantly working to make our content accessible to all who want it, where and when they want it.

Total FY2012 revenues were $19.8 million with support provided by station fees, corporate underwriting and grants from individuals and foundations. Major underwriters include The Medtronic Foundation, Scion, Amazon Kindle, PBS and Reputation.com. Foundation support is provided by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Henry Luce Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation and more.

History

PRI was established in 1983 to develop distinctive programming and to diversify the public radio offering. Originally known as American Public Radio, PRI changed its name to Public Radio International in 1994 to mark its new position as a source for international broadcast news information. In 1996 PRI launched "PRI's The World®," public media's first global news program, and "Classical 24," a 24-hour classical music service. In 2001 it premiered "Studio 360 from PRI and WNYC," a weekly guide to pop culture and the arts, and in 2008, launched "The Takeaway," a groundbreaking news show co-produced with WNYC Radio in collaboration with the BBC World Service, the "New York Times" and WGBH Radio Boston.
