Zach Vertin

Zach Vertin joined the International Crisis Group’s U.N. advocacy office in New York in August 2006. In September 2009, Vertin became the ICG's Horn of Africa analyst. Working primarily on South Sudan, he is based in Nairobi and travels regularly to Sudan.

In his previous role as U.N. analyst, Vertin worked on peace and security issues across the U.N. system, with a particular focus on African issues in the Security Council. Prior to the Crisis Group, he spent time doing advocacy work with the Kenya Human Rights Commission, and with a social services agency in New York City. He holds a Bachelors degree in Philosophy from St. John's University in Minnesota, and spent time studying post-apartheid politics at the University of Port Elizabeth in South Africa.
