Geneva-based William Dowell serves as GlobalPost Regional Editor for Europe and also covers the activities of non-governmental organizations worldwide. Dowell has been a staff correspondent for TIME magazine, a television reporter and producer for ABC-TV, a radio correspondent for NBC News and a producer for National Public Radio. Dowell was media and information coordinator for CARE International's Emergency Group, where he coordinated worldwide media coverage of disasters and emergencies. Dowell spent several years as a reporter and field producer for ABC-TV, as a radio correspondent for NBC News, and as an associate producer for NPR. Earlier in his career, Dowell worked as a war correspondent in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. He reported on the civil war in Beirut, on the mujaheddin in Afghanistan during the Russian occupation, and he was present in Tehran during the Iranian revolution. He also has reported extensively on Africa.
