Karen Coates has covered food, environment and social issues across Southeast Asia for the past dozen years. She is the Southeast Asia correspondent for Archaeology Magazine, and she was Gourmet's Asia correspondent until the magazine closed in 2009. She is author of Cambodia Now: Life in the Wake of War and co-author of Pacific Lady: The First Woman to Sail Solo Across the World's Largest Ocean, documenting the feats of Sharon Sites Adams. Karen writes the food blog, Rambling Spoon, as well as a Food Culture column for The Faster Times. After living in Cambodia and Thailand for several years, Karen and her husband, photojournalist Jerry Redfern, now split their time between Asia and the American Southwest.
