Jimmy Carter on 'The Tavis Smiley Show'

Former President Jimmy Carter talks to Tavis about his controversial meeting with leaders of the Islamic militant group Hamas.

Since leaving the White House in 1981, former President Jimmy Carter has won the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize, monitored elections around the globe, founded the non-profit Carter Center, tirelessly supported Habitat for Humanity, and authored numerous books. But he's making the most news of-late for his controversial meeting in Damascus with leaders of the exhiled militant group Hamas this past month.

He discusses his on-going Middle Eastern peace building process with Tavis Smiley.

According to Mr. Carter: "... the United State's policy of not speaking to anyone with whom you disagree or you can't dominate ... is a real setback or impediment to bringing peace, not only to ourselves, but to Israel."

He also pays homage to his mother, the late Bessie Lillian Gordy Carter, in his new book "A Remarkable Mother."

I like your interview with Jimmy Carter.
Great to be able to download the interview. Just wish more people could open their minds to listening to Pubic Radio. Debby
