This documentary probes the limits on journalism in democratic societies as well as those where the government controls the press.

Roy Greenslade, a prominent journalist with more than forty years of experience, presents this special series on freedom of the press. He probes limits on journalism in democratic societies as well as those where the government controls the press.

In the United States, Freedom of the Press is guaranteed by our First Amendment. But in some other nations, journalists are hampered by severe government restraints. Roy Greenslade reports from Russia, where a prominent journalist was killed in 2006. He speaks with Zimbabwean journalists, who must live abroad to continue their work. He also focuses on the risks and challenges of reporting from a war zone such as Iraq.

A special collaboration between BBC World Service and PRI's "The World," "The Changing World" is a series of powerful documentaries, each of which takes a long look at a single global issue, from geo-political hegemony to world health concerns.
