Volunteer (Unpaid) Social Media Intern

Are you a Facebook/Twitter/internet addict? PRI is seeking social-media-savvy college students for our Social Media Internship!

If you want experience working for a national public media organization, this is an exciting time to join our Interactive Team!

Social Media professionals are in-demand throughout all industries, and this is an excellent way to gain hands-on working experience in the field! As part of our national team of interns and professionals, you will learn all about online marketing and social media in a public media environment!

You will have involvement in every aspect of PRI’s social media presence:

- You will work with web editors to determine news and entertainment content to share with PRI’s
   Facebook, Twitter and other communities.
- You will work with the marketing team to develop blog posts, and work to drive social media interaction.
- You will learn the basics of search engine marketing and optimization through the use of web-based
   software tools that track and monitor traffic and campaign success.

Qualifications: The qualified candidate will possess the following skills and abilities: 

- Extensive social media experience (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube)
- Have maintained a blog for at least a year
- Highly active in Twitter
- A high level of creativity in getting people’s attention online
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Experience filming and editing video or creating infographics a plus
- Experience with Photoshop, Adobe Flash a plus

The Social Media Internship is conducted at PRI’s headquarters in Minneapolis, MN, and will require a minimum of 16 hours per week. The internship is unpaid but college credit may be available, and we cover travel expenses (parking, public transit pass).

Volunteer (Unpaid) Interactive Web Intern

Status: Part-time, Volunteer, Temporary
Length: 3 months

Celebrated as a driver of innovation in public media, Public Radio International (PRI) was founded to diversify and expand the content available on public platforms, enabling U.S. listeners to "hear a different voice™" and to connect with one another and the larger world. PRI leads by identifying critical but unmet content needs and partnering with producers, stations, digital networks and funders to develop multi-platform resources to meet those needs. By creating an environment in which innovation can thrive, PRI supports the creation and distribution of content that would otherwise be unavailable, bringing new voices, global journalism and cultural perspectives to the American public.

The Interactive Web Intern position offers an outstanding, hands-on learning opportunity for a student in the area of web development.

Specifics:
As the Interactive Web Intern, you will design and update content, layout and navigation on PRI’s web properties. Responsibilities include coding, testing, troubleshooting and documenting. You will work with multimedia content to include audio, video, graphics and text. You will also assist in the development of web and mobile applications.

While the internship is unpaid, we are open to offering academic credit. PRI will provide your choice of a monthly parking contract, bus pass or Light Rail pass fully paid.

Qualifications:
We seek a student who is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in interactive design/web development. He or she must be available to work a minimum of six hours a week (some work can be completed off site). Qualified candidates must have strong coding skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; accuracy and attention to detail; the ability to work on a deadline and Microsoft Office proficiency. An understanding and interest in public media preferred.

(Paid) Interactive Content Intern

Position: Interactive Content Intern
Department: Interactive
Reports To: Interactive Web Editor
Status: Full time, Non-exempt, Temporary
Hours: 40 hours a week
Length: Approximately 3 months

The Interactive Content Intern position offers an outstanding learning opportunity for a journalism/communications student interested in writing and creating content for web. This internship will provide hands-on experience pitching, writing, and researching stories and strategizing web initiatives.

Specifics:
The interactive content intern will be an important part of the online, mobile and social media efforts at Public Radio International. Key duties will include turning radio pieces into interactive content through writing and visuals, aggregation of important topics and breaking news as well as original reporting that produces content that fits the mission of PRI. In addition, this reporter will be expected to know and appreciate social media and use social tools to inform, enliven and distribute PRI content.

This is a full-time, non-exempt temporary paid internship.  The ideal candidate will be available to work 40 hours a week; however, we are open to offering two part-time 20 hours a week internships.  PRI will also offer academic credit if requested and a weekly transportation reimbursement.

Qualifications:
We seek a student with significant coursework in journalism/communications and/or significant experience in a journalism/communications position within a media company. 

•    Knowledge with journalism best practices, strong writing, researching and communications skills
      especially in social media short formats.
•    Experience reporting and producing stories across platforms and media with working knowledge of
      HTML, multimedia production and major social media tools.
•    Excellent interpersonal skills, accuracy and attention to detail and the ability to work on a deadline. 
•    Experience with audio, video and photo a plus.

As an Interactive Content Intern you will gain:
•    Improved experience with research, writing and reporting.
•    Multimedia editing skills.
•    Experience using social media to find sources, make connections and promote stories,
      conversations.
•    Familiarity with working as a journalist.

As the Interactive Developer Fellowship, you will be mentored on creating web services and back end administrative interfaces for various PRI technologies including a browser plug-in, crowd sourcing tools, an asset management system, and updates to PRI.org as well. Responsibilities include coding, testing, troubleshooting and documenting. You will also assist in the development of web and mobile applications.

While the Fellowship is unpaid, we are open to offering academic credit. PRI will provide your choice of a monthly parking contract, bus pass or Light Rail pass fully paid.

The Graphic Design Intern position offers an outstanding, hands-on learning opportunity for a student in the area of graphic and interactive design.

Specifics:
As the Graphic Design Intern, you will produce creative assets for print and web. Responsibilities include concept and design/layout for various print mailers, web graphics, mobile apps, e-newsletters and blasts. Through this internship, you will learn facets of communicating through design.

While the internship is unpaid, we can offer academic credit and a monthly transportation stipend.

Qualifications
:
We seek a student who is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in the area of web/interactive/graphic design. He or she must be available to work a minimum of 16-20 hours a week (some work can be completed off site).  Qualified candidates must have strong web design and CSS skills, as well as knowledge of print design and production; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; accuracy and attention to detail; the ability to work on a deadline; Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite proficiency. An understanding and interest in public media preferred.
