Welcome!

alisa-ted-sm.jpgThis special area of PRI.ORG, Global Matters, provides background, resources, and potentially a blog regarding my recent talk, "How News Shapes Our World," with links to some resources on global journalism, research, trends and why we at PRI are so passionate about our role to lead media by serving Americans by creating, supporting, providing and building content, community and engagement around global news and cultural perspectives. This is all in service of PRI’s mission – to help Americans understand our interconnected world. Given this challenge, this page will be updated more frequently. I have realized there are not many places where people can come together on this important charge. As we come across important trends, trend-setters, and people making a difference to inform Americans with solid journalism and programming focused on global news and/or cultural perspectives, they will also be featured here.

We intuitively know that our society is becoming more globally interconnected each day. But sometimes it may feel hard to literally feel connected with this reality, therefore, this page will also be the start of our Global Me zone which for feature creative work and factoids that helps us all understand how “global” our lives are.

In our increasingly interdependent world, events taking place in distant countries can be of vital significance to Americans; in turn, the choices and actions we take here at home can reverberate around the globe. Yet, Americans seem to know less and less about the world around them, their many connections to it, and the complexities and interrelationships between major issues such as peace and security, energy, sustainability and the environment, economic development, health, and the arts and culture.

This is important because how we comprehend our world shapes how we live in it and what actions we take. PRI works to engage Americans by bringing the most significant news stories and diverse perspectives to millions -- empowering Americans with the knowledge to make choices in an interconnected world.

Join us. We know that with your help, we will dramatically increase the amount of quality content available on these important subjects, available in more places, and engage you to be a part of our charge to help more Americans understand more about our interconnected world. We believe it is critical for our success as a nation and as citizens of this world. Please join us as we learn and strive to make this leap a reality and work to build momentum to make this happen. We look forward to your thoughts and feedback!

Sincerely,
