Haiti on brink of becoming latest member of African Union

If all goes as planned, Haiti, yes North America's Haiti, will become the latest member of the African Union sometime in January. Haiti and Africa share a sense of history, and African countries stepped up in the wake of Haiti's earthquake, which has led some to conclude the time is right to formalize their ties.

the statement that Haiti the only black nation is wrong. three african nations were among the founders of UN in 1945, Egypt, Liberia and Ethiopia. not counting Republic of South Africa.

Egypt is an Arab country. It is African without being black. The Republic of South Africa was then an apartheid state that did not allow Black Africans to participate in the entire governance process and cannot be said to have been a black nation.

I will allow you Ethiopia and Liberia though.

I did not say Egypt is non Arab, if you know Egypt most of southern part are blacks. I said The Republic of South Africa did not count

Kuria is right about Egypt because it is still under Arab Muslim rule like the rest of North Afrika which was conquered by Arab Muslims.

The African Union was founded by Libya! If we are talking about the OAU which came BEFORE it then, you can't mention that without talking about Kwame Nkrumah! who formed the whole intellectual basis of it!
