Colorado shooter labeled as terrorist by some, too early to tell for others

I don't understand the reticence of these media outlets to call this guy exactly what he is. Had all the details of this case remained the same, except that he practiced Islam, then the label of 'terrorism' wouldn't even be controversial. Wait a minute...what am I saying? I completely understand why that is.

"In a funny way, this guy was a terrorist," Hickenlooper said on CNN. "He wasn't a terrorist in the sense of politics, but for whatever twisted reasons that we can barely even imagine, he wanted to create terror. He wanted to put fear into peoples' lives."

By this logic Rupert Murdoch is the world's top terrorist.
