A growing community of Hispanic American immigrants, as well as Hispanics in their home country, are choosing to convert from their predominantly Christian religions to Islam. It's especially common for women.

It's inevitable that Latinos who come in contact with Islam will embrace it. The teachings of Islam are straightforward and sensible. One God, no saints or intercessors, no worship of human beings, no absolution by a priest. We pray to God alone, worship Him, and repent to Him.

For those talking about heads being cut off and stoning, that's ridiculous. Such things happen very rarely even in Muslim countries, and when they do it's a product of ignorance and culture, not the teachings of Islam. Women get murdered by husbands and boyfriends in the West just as well. Violence against women is a global problem that needs to be addressed through education and the law.

I live in California. I have met many Latino converts, and they all lead happy and fulfilled lives. They say that converting to Islam was the best decision they ever made.

I'm interested in interviewing a Latino(a) Muslim for a podcast. In full disclosure, the podcast is sponsored by Hispanic American Freethinkers. The idea is to ask about the process and reasons Latino converts have chosen Islam over other religions, how this has affected family relations, etc. The interview will be respectful, although ideas/religions are not necessarily respected. EXCUSE ME? Catholics are NOT Christians in any way, shape or form. NEVER HAS BEEN.
