Starting this fall, Canada will stop making and distributing its pennies. Electronic transactions can still include prices in one-cent intervals, but cash transactions will be rounded up and down to the nearest five cents. It's an effort to cut costs because the penny costs more to make than its worth.

Good move by Canada. I think it's time for the US to drop the penny also. It's just not worth anything anymore, and it's too expensive to make. As long as business round up AND down, it will be a wash. I'd be sad to see the penny go, but it's more and more like the telegraph and the Pony Express... just a piece of history.
Congress wants to produce pennies more cheaply? Make them biodegradable. No one wants them anyway.
