An investigation by Rob Schmitz at Marketplace concluded that the claims Mike Daisey made in an episode of This American Life could not be true. This American Life made the decision to retract the program after confronting Daisey, who admitted to making up parts of his program.

Thank you Ira Glass. Simply, you found out someone on the program was lying, and you pulled the segment--while alerting people. Hey CNN, FOX, NBC,etc. --ever hear of this concept?! Oh,I forgot, politics is off-limits to journalists.

I know that Ira is beating himself up over this, and I certainly understand why (I would too) but hopefully he can detach himself enough from his situation to realize that his original intent and motivation are what count most (and exactly why you will never get a retraction from FOX). His smarter-than-the-average-bear listeners know that. And while integrity in journalism *is* vitally important, no one who knows anything about Ira Glass at all will EVER question his integrity. Thank you Ira, you have just shown the rest of the world the appropriate way to act. Those who matter will love you more for it, not less.
