										<description>Professor Shelton is correct in her assessment that much of the toxic waste Chevron has left behind in Ecuador has contaminated the unseen waterways.  However, as best as I can tell, evidence of the contamination is also highly visible from the hundreds of waste pits that line the jungle floor.  These pits, some the size of football fields, are pools of toxic sludge that lie exposed to the sun and are clearly visible to the naked eye.  You can readily see that the noxious black gunk continues to ooze from the pitsâ€”poisoning rivers and streams, coating the topsoil, and affecting thousands of plant and animal species. &lt;br /&gt;
