On 'Studio 360' -- film director Kimberly Peirce explains why audiences aren't drawn to movies about the war in Iraq.

Kurt surveys the landscape and talks with the latest director to brave the war movie marketplace -- Kimberly Peirce. Peirce's new fiction film about Iraq,"Stop Loss," was inspired by her brother, who came back from a tour in the Army and showed her the raw real-life videos combat soldiers were making.

'Stop Loss' is a drama about soldiers dealing with the so-called "back door draft" that prohibits them from retiring once their required term of service is complete.

PRI's Peabody Award-winning "Studio 360 with Kurt Andersen" from WNYC is public radio's smart and surprising guide to what's happening in pop culture and the arts. Each week, Kurt Andersen introduces you to the people who are creating and shaping our culture. Life is busy — so let "Studio 360" steer you to the must-see movie this weekend, the next book for your nightstand, or the song that will change your life.
